October & November In The Garden 2022 was almost non existent. I usually put all my energy into the holidays, so the backyard suffers a bit. Actually, I’m sure the garden and all the critters in it are more than happy to not see my face all up in their business.
The few times I do go out in the garden I still see quite a few flowers still blooming. It’s a shame I don’t appreciate them more. It’s this time of year when I feel like my gardening days are coming to an end, and it’s too late to buy new plants. I know some people are planning next years gardens already, but my mind is focused on Halloween and Thanksgiving. Still though, I do take a few moments to appreciate the last blooms before the weather turns cold. I absolutely love how the new roses performed this year. We had a few heat waves that fried a few blooms before they had a chance to show themselves at their full potential. Maybe next year once they are fully established they will be able to handle the heat.
My temple dogs were looking pretty cool as well, but they just don’t seem to be in the right spot. I will keep moving them around until I am happy.
Looking at all the blooms and plants I am really not sure which direction I want to take. I really love a garden that is clear of dead leaves and nicely trimmed back, but I keep reading about how we should leave the spent blooms and plants alone during the Winter so the wildlife have a good food source through those cold days. I want to help the wildlife, but I want to enjoy the garden as well. Grrr. For now I don’t have to make any decisions. I will leave that for another day.
